Thick Crust Pizza Dough

thick crust pizza dough recipe

Our family loves a good thick crust pizza dough recipe. It’s fun to make, and it’s very filling for our growing kids.

Making pizza is a fun tradition in our house. It’s a way I get to spend a little bit of time with my kids. We talk about all sorts of things while we work. The older kids are learning about cooking, or talking about texture and taste. The little kids are hearing new words and practicing repeating things like, “cheese”, “pizza”, “sausage”, etc. Tasting fresh vegetables is another reward that comes with putting toppings on the pizza. If you take a moment you can find all kinds of great learning opportunities here… even teachable moments like sharing and taking turns.

We prefer to use bread flour when mixing the dough, but all purpose flour will work too.

Making your pizza…

Place on a pizza stone, or cookie sheet, and precook for 10 minutes in a 400 degree oven.

Add sauce, cheeses, seasonings, and toppings (fresh veggies and cooked meat) to your liking.

Cook pizza until cheese begins to brown slightly (about 20-25 minutes).

Here’s an added Tip: Season your pizza dough before adding the toppings with garlic salt, Italian seasoning or something else. Surprise your taste buds with that little extra zing!
